At Outcare, we know that sometimes a small piece of support can make a big difference.
For many people, access to a laptop, tablet or the internet is something we take for granted. But for those facing financial hardship, not having access to technology can make it harder to apply for jobs, study, connect with services, attend appointments, or stay in touch with family and friends.
That’s why our partnership with Sam’s Spares is so important.
Outcare is proud to be a Digital Access Partner with Sam’s Spares, a Western Australian social enterprise that provides refurbished technology to people who need it most.
Sam’s Spares works with trusted community organisations and schools to help identify individuals and families experiencing genuine hardship. As a Digital Access Partner, Outcare can request devices for the people we support, helping them access technology quickly when it’s needed.
This simple process means less paperwork, faster support, and more opportunities for people to stay connected to the things that help them move forward.

Recently, the Outcare team returned to the Sam’s Spares workshop to collect a laptop for a client who is working hard to rebuild stability and create a more positive future.
The client is currently in Phase 1 of the Drug Court program and is focused on building a clean, stable and productive routine. During mandatory home curfew hours from 9 pm to 6 am, they had been relying on a shared family computer with limited availability. This made it difficult to study consistently or make the most of their evenings at home.
With purchasing a reliable laptop out of reach while they rebuild financially, having a dedicated device removes a very practical barrier. It gives the client independent access to free, self-paced online learning, including Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Introduction to Programming with Python and Small Business Management.
These courses are helping the client build skills in technology, basic coding and business, with the longer-term goal of moving into work that is less physically demanding. Just as importantly, the laptop provides a constructive way to stay engaged at home, supporting the routine and rehabilitation goals they are working towards through Drug Court.
A device is only useful when someone can get online. Sam’s Spares also provided an Optus dongle and SIM card with 12 months of data, giving the client both the laptop and connectivity needed to begin learning straight away.
For this client, the laptop is more than a piece of technology. It is a practical tool for learning, structure and the next stage of their life. It is also a reminder of what can happen when community partnerships respond to a person’s goals with the right support at the right time.
The Power of Community Partnerships
At Outcare, we recognise that creating lasting change takes more than one organisation working alone.
Partnerships like the one we share with Sam’s Spares help us expand the support available to the people and communities we walk alongside every day. Together, we’re helping remove barriers, increase access to opportunity, and ensure more people can participate fully in an increasingly digital world.
We’re grateful to the team at Sam’s Spares for helping create stronger, more connected communities across Western Australia.
