Outcare acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of our lands and pays respect to Elders past and present, extending that respect to all First Nations peoples. We honour the enduring connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to Country, culture, community, and kin, and recognise their invaluable contributions to the social services community through healing, care, advocacy, and leadership. Outcare is dedicated to partnering with communities, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Elders to advance justice, equity, and self-determination.
Our work with First Nations people and communities is centred on cultural safety and supporting self-determination. We are deeply mindful of historical context, strong community bonds, intergenerational trauma, and the ongoing impacts of colonisation as we strive to build meaningful relationships, authentic partnerships, and deliver culturally respectful services that enable First Nations peoples to achieve their hopes and dreams.
We recognise that First Nations women are disproportionately represented as victims of Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) due to structural inequality, the impacts of colonisation and systemic barriers to accessing culturally safe support. Addressing FDSV experienced by First Nations women requires approaches grounded in cultural authority, self-determination, and human rights, consistent with the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children.
