Aboriginal Throughcare
Aboriginal Throughcare specialises in supporting First Nations Australians throughout the justice system.
The program emphasises building stronger relationships with family, culture and community.
We engage with people from their final year in prison and support them for up to two years post-release. During the pre-release stage, we assess the client’s criminogenic and psychosocial needs, and we recognise the importance of the relationship between clients, support staff and their cultural practices. We collaborate together to create a support plan to ensure the clients’ transition back into the community.
Our team provides a person-centred approach, providing holistic support to our clients. We aim to remove barriers, ensuring successfully reintegration into the community. The support we offer includes helping clients in finding short-term accommodation, training, education, sustainable employment, and mental health & substance use counselling.
Outcare prioritises client’s wellbeing, to ensure they receive the appropriate client-led support. We value people with lived experience, and we are proud to employ lived experience practitioners within the organisation.
