Drug Court Peer Support Pathway
Walking alongside people breaking the cycle of substance use and offending
The Drug Court program supports people with substance use challenges who are involved in the justice system. Within a dedicated court setting, participants work with a multidisciplinary team including a Magistrate, legal representatives and treatment services.
Outcare enhances this pathway through lived‑experience peer workers who walk alongside participants throughout any phase of the program — from early assessment through to later stages. Support is flexible and voluntary, and can begin as early as the assessment phase.
Peer workers provide practical guidance, encouragement and reflection drawn from their own lived experience. Their focus is on helping participants reconnect with the community, address substance use challenges, rebuild confidence and strengthen social connections that support long‑term change.
This pathway supports people to:
- Break the cycle of substance use and offending
- Build confidence and motivation for change
- Strengthen social connections and community belonging
- Engage in healthy activities, interests and passions
- Feel supported by someone who understands their journey
